Favorite photograph from each month

Last day of the year – seems like an appropriate time to show my favorite photograph from each month of 2011.  So here goes:

Note that these are what I think are my favorites. Not necessarily my best work, but the ones I like the best, either because they are some of my best or because I enjoyed the experience of making the photograph or whatever.  It was a fun year in photography.

January:

Winter landscape. The hoar frost on the tree makes the photograph for me.

February:

Who could forget Mike Jimenez with a wolf on his back?

March:

The month of the Great Gray Owl. This one had attacked a critter deep under the snow when I caught him.

April:

Stormy spring weather in the Tetons:

May:

I couldn’t pick just one favorite. So I’ll cheat and post two:

Vivienne on the beach in Key Largo:

Grizzly sow with cub in Yellowstone:

June:

I’m going to cheat again… I couldn’t pick just one:

Great Gray Owl on the best perch I’ve ever seen. At the moment, this is my favorite photograph I’ve ever taken.

Grizzly 399.  This is one of the first photos I ever shot of her.  A nice, although rather unemotional portrait. I have better photos of her, but this was the first time I ever shot her so it is special.

July:

Another cheat month. Sorry, I’m feeling indecisive.

Fletch and Vivi on the couch:

Summer storm landscape. A perfect godbeam shining in front of the Grand Teton:

August:

My sweetie pie:

September:

Another two-shot month.

Grizzly 610′s cub in a berry bush:

Sig:

October:

A Pine Marten. This is the first and only pine marten I have photographed.  It’s going to be hard to ever get a better shot of one than this:

November:

Cheating. Again.

The huge trophy mule deer buck with beautiful sunset light behind him:

Grizzly cub Ash (one of 399′s new cubs) dashing through the snow:

December:

Juvenile Bald Eagle in flight:

Happy New Year!

Amazing. A friend shared these with me and I am in awe! You must have remarkable patience.
I couldn’t pick a favorite either — between your daughter, the bears, the owls… oh my! These images humble me! Thank you!

I love the Winter Landscape and Stormy weather in Tetons- the clouds (or fog?) partially obscuring mountains are so dramatic. You can almost feel the weather looking at them.
